Jason Silverman here from Powerful Words Character Development. Hope you’re having an awesome day!

As you know, when you are remarkable, you are remarked about…therefore, going the extra mile can do amazing things for both your member retention AS WELL AS your new enrollment. The sad truth, however, is far too many owners don’t take the time necessary to implement the easy systems to ensure that your clients are having an amazing experience. Regardless of whether you own a Martial Arts Academy, Cheer Gym, Gymnastics Club, Dance Studio or Swim School – these tips will be valuable to you!

Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity (both personally at my facility as well as with hundreds of clients) to discover the Power of ensuring a Powerful Experience for clients. I know that at my academy, our retention rate always hovered around 99%, which meant that on a monthly basis, only 1% of my students would discontinue training. Unfortunately, as I speak to more and more owners in this industry, I’m seeing retention rates that are dramatically lower. That’s sad.

So, today, let me share a few ideas / systems that always proved helpful for me and are now proving helpful for many of my clients worldwide to ensure that all of their members become (and stay) absolute Raving Fans:

1.) Teach nothing but amazing classes. I know this sounds silly…of course we all teach amazing classes, right? Hopefully, the answer is yes. Take a really, really good, hard look at every class that’s being taught and make sure that it always contains SSL –> Sweating, Smiling and Learning. (With a nod to Mr. Dave Kovar for that one)

2.) Welcome New Members THE RIGHT WAY. Have a New Member Success System so that when a new member comes aboard, they feel comfortable with everything they need to know. Make sure that you’re sending them a welcome postcard (not an email) to add that little extra touch. For info about Welcome PostCards click here.

3.) The First 100 Days are crucial. Make sure that you have a “Stick System” (a system designed to help make the new member feel at home quickly so that they “stick around”. I strongly urge you or one of your staff members to implement a 2-4-6 call system. All this is, is a scripted series of calls made to each new member at the 2 week, 4 week and 6 week interval from when they joined. These calls allow you to nip any potential issues in the bud, ensure that they parents and athlete are happy, and potentially generate some referrals and some early testimonials. In addition to the 2-4-6 calls, I’ll urge you to use all the helpful technology you can as well — Message and mention them on facebook, text them to check in, tweet them (if they’re on twitter), etc. None of this is hard to do…just get in the habit of doing it!

4.) Make sure to “Catch them doing something great!” Every week, my staff used to go out of their way to notice somebody doing something extraordinary. It might have been a physical skill they’d been struggling with, or perhaps it was just how helpful they’d been in class. It’s amazing what sending them a “Your Rock!” postcard or simply picking up the phone after class and calling them to let them know how proud we were of them. Word got out in our town and people flocked to our facility – not just because technically we were the best (which we were), but because the process of becoming the best was so enjoyable. (ya know, outside of the pushups, abwork, bagwork, roadwork, etc.)

5.) Don’t be afraid to invest in your clients. One of our clients had seemed totally stressed out and overworked before heading to worlds this year in Orlando. We wanted to make her smile and hopefully make her life a little easier, so we ordered an enormous fruit and goodie basket be placed in her room with a small card from us. As it turned out, the contents of that basket were the only thing she and her staff had to eat during the competition. That made US feel great. I’m pretty sure nobody else did that. Over the years, I’ve sent clients books, videos, chocolate covered fruit, steaks, you name it. Not because I have to, but because I want to. It always strengthens the relationship. The key here though, is to EXPECT NOTHING IN RETURN. Do it because you want to, not as a “quid pro quo”

6.) Teach it ALL! That doesn’t mean teach all the classes. It means teach both the mental AS WELL as the physical side. Many folks know that I’m the CEO for Powerful Words Character Development, a program designed to help develop your athletes from the inside out. If you haven’t checked it out, you should. Many owners have come aboard as a way to offer more value to their members and the families of their members. Seriously – take a peek. As the industry’s #1 Character Development System (and the only one designed by an internationally acclaimed Child Development Expert who is often called upon as an expert for the Today Show, Good Morning America, Nightline, etc. If you want the best – you’ve found it. Take action! Here’s a quick video from our very own Dr. Robyn about having your school as a Personal Development Center – it’s worth a quick watch!

7.) Over-Communicate with the parents. One of the biggest problems in the after school activity world is that parents feel like they don’t know what’s going on (regardless of whether or not you think you told them!) So, make sure that you are sending email blasts (at least weekly), communicating appropriately via text, adding content to your members only area, blogging a few times per week, updating your facebook page, your like page and heck, if your people are on twitter, make sure you’re tweeting too. It’s just that important!

8.) Ask for Feedback…AND LISTEN! It’s always great to hear when you’re doing a great job (and when you do – make sure to write it down and/or video it so you can use it in your marketing!), it’s not so great to hear when you’re dropping the ball…HOWEVER, it’s really important to know when you do, so that you can take action and fix it immediately, right? Make sure you don’t bury your head in the sand like an Ostrich if you hear something less than perfect. Evaluate if it’s actually a problem and if it is…FIX IT!

9.) Give them MORE than they Expect – Always OverDeliver! We all love to get great free stuff, right? Figure out how you can go the extra mile and overdeliver to your clients. It might be something as simple as providing some helpful videos in your members area (in the parent info center), to help them feel more “in the know”. Some of our clients add strength or flexibility vids so that there members can continue to train, safely of course, when they’re NOT at the gym. Make sense? If, for some reason you DO NOT have an effective Members Only Area on your site, please contact me immediately – we need to chat!

10.) Remember that every single member that you’ve been blessed with, could easily be somewhere else. I always remembered that my students were either one step closer to their goal, or one step out the door…the good news was that it was my choice since I was controlling their experience.

I’d love YOUR FEEDBACK please. Help me learn more about how YOU provide an amazing experience at your business. Please comment below or shoot me a quick note at powceo@gmail.com

Obviously, if you’re looking to discover how you can leverage the credentials as well as the media celebrity of Dr. Robyn Silverman and Powerful Words for YOUR ACADEMY, contact me immediately. Why wait?

Get out there and change some lives!

best,

<img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-458" style="margin: 2px;" title="Jason M.
I’m lucky enough to have the opportunity to speak with school/studio/gym and academy owners pretty much every single day. As a former Martial Arts School owner myself, I enjoy helping people to build the kind of businesses that they’ve always hoped to build and live the kind of lives they truly deserve to live.

One question I get on a regular basis, when speaking to people who are trying to incorporate the right Personal Development / Life Skills Program for their school is “how do I know which program is right for me, my staff and my students?” And, what makes Powerful Words Character Development the best and most legitimate option?

Generally speaking, it almost always comes down to one thing. Who created and maintains the integrity of the Personal Development System you are planning to implement in your school? What are their qualifications to create this kind of program? What is their true expertise at designing legitimate curriculum? What is their experience and track record at doing this for the long run?(this one is important as over the past 5 years, I’ve seen so many “character programs” pop up and then go out of business as the owner/creator couldn’t maintain it properly.) How long has the program been in existence and what is the industry saying about it?

It’s important that you “hire” the right expert for the job. You wouldn’t ask your mechanic to fix your root canal for you, just because he’s good with tools, would you? Of course not. You’d find the right Dr. who is qualified, practiced and experienced to ensure a successful result, wouldn’t you?

Here’s a short video of Dr Robyn Silverman (the founder and creator of Powerful Words) speaking about some of her qualifications and why she is the right person to create THE character development system for the After School Activity industry.

As most in the industry know, Dr. Robyn is recognized as a leading Parenting / Child Development Expert and appears regularly in this capacity on The Today Show, Good Morning America, Nightline, The Tyra Show, Fox News, etc. Many of the top Powerful Words schools worldwide use Dr. Robyn’s celebrity as well as her credentials to their advantage by letting folks know that they have their very own Celebrity Child & Teen Development Expert on Staff. Makes alot of sense, right?

What are you doing to OVERDELIVER to your clients and add value to their lives on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis?

As a school / gym / club / studio owner your members expect to get a fantastic physical eduction. Let’s face it, if you’ve gone through the hassle and expense to open up a business teaching the skills you teach, people expect you to be great at it. Being great at it though, is the absolute minimum you can do for your people.

Are YOU Doing only the minimum…or do you OverDeliver?

Here are a few suggestions to provide extra value to your people:

1.) Create an experience with every class you offer. Think about the “image-sensory package” of your facility (this is something I usually speak about in my courses) and make sure that everything about your facility (the way it looks, sounds, smells, feels, and yes…even tastes) shows that you care about your folks:

a.) Your parking lots are easy to maneuver and offer easy (well lit) access to your facility.
b.) Your lobby/entrance area is clean, professional and inviting. It should basically say to anybody who walks in, “we’re happy you’re here and we’ll treat you like you deserve to be treated here!”
c.) Your bathrooms should be clean and neat. If you really want to overdeliver – go visit a spa and check out their bathrooms/locker rooms…model those!
d.) Your staff is always dressed professionally and appropriately and always has a smile on their faces.
e.) Your staff goes out of their way to ensure that everybody leaves with a smile on their face…excited to come back for their next visit.
f.) Your parents viewing area is a welcome haven for parents to enjoy the classes without disturbing or disrupting anybody. Comfy chairs, coffee maker, a staff member in “hearing” distance to ensure you know of everything going on
g.) Your classes are well run, punctual, and effective. Everybody appreciates the fact that you go out of your way to get the results you promised when they joined.

2.) Be More than a physical education center:

a.) If you promise to help develop the character of your students – DELIVER ON THAT PROMISE. (in fact, this is why so many folks jump aboard Powerful Words Character Development, since we provide everything you need to successfully do this!) Let’s face it…you have a curriculum for the physical skills you teach, right? Well, if you REALLY want to professionally teach personal development, why not use the system that is PROVEN to develop the character of your members? Powerful Words is that system
b.) Educate the parents AND the students. When you provide helpful information for the parents, they see the value of membership at your facility. (You can always use the Parents Perch and the Dear Dr. Robyn exactly for this purpose)
c.) Become the Personal Development Resource that your community so sorely needs.
d.) Trail blaze in your community – become a leader and show your community how to live their lives with character. It’s amazing how soon your facility will become recognized as “The Personal Development Center”, regardless of the physical skills you offer.

3.) Connect on a personal level:
a.) Offer more than just “classes” and “teams”…offer them a “home away from home”. This means that your facility is their gathering point – a place where they’re always comfortable and always welcome.
b.) Celebrate holidays together and break bread. It’s been my experience that the facilities who “party” together build nice, strong bonds. Holiday parties, theme parties and other ways to socialize as a big “family” will serve to create a spectacular connection with your current members as well as their families and friends.
c.) Postcards are like gold - find a reason to send your people postcards (yes, actual post cards that you write on and put a stamp on and mail!) People appreciate it like you wouldn’t believe.
d.) Pick up the phone and call them…especially when it has nothing to do with money. Let them know they did a great job in class, or that you missed them, or that you were sorry to hear about their grandma Sue. Just do it. You’ll both be glad you did.

This should be a great start – feel free to chime in, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Oh, and if, for some insane reason, you’re NOT taking advantage of everything that Powerful Words Character Development can (and will) do for your school / gym / club / studio – do yourself (and your students) a favor right now…and jump aboard. It’s risk free with a full money back guarantee — we’re THAT CONFIDENT that our program WORKS and will WORK FOR YOU!

Many of our Powerful Words family members tell us that they use Powerful Words as their primary system to ensure that they continually over deliver to their clients (and this totally warms our hearts!) It seems logical to me that if you are looking for a competitive advantage to help your business this coming year, it would be foolish NOT to get started with this proven system. I’m happy to discuss it with you…in fact, I’ll be happy to book a quick coaching call with you FOR FREE (if you act fast…)

I’ve got a few openings left in my schedule…if you’d like to chat about how Powerful Words will help you achieve your goals in 2012, reply back to this note and we can schedule a convenient time for both of us

warm regards,
Jason

Jason from Powerful Words Character Development here…hope you’re doing great!

It’s a beautiful, sunny day here in NJ – aside from the fact that my daughter Tallie has pnemonia, my son Noah has an ear infection, Dr. Robyn’s got a cold, and I’ve got bronchitis. Yuck.

That being said, I still wanted to share some goodies with you today.

This morning, in between coughing fits, I was speaking with one of my platinum coaching clients, and we were discussing some valuable systems to help her increase her word of mouth referrals (that’s currently her #1 lead generation vehicle, so that’s where she likes to focus her energy).

Here’s the Cliffs Notes version of our conversation:

Most people don’t get enough referrals because they either:

a.) Don’t Deserve Them “if you want to be remarked about, you must be REMARKABLE!”

b.) Most owners/instructors/coaches don’t tend to ask for referrals on a regular basis.

c.) Most owners/instructors/coaches don’t have a systemized method for collecting the referrals.

d.) Most owners/instructors/coaches don’t have a systemized method for following up with the people who were referred to them.

e.) Most owners/instructors/coaches don’t have enough “social proof” to help make it commonplace for your members to WANT TO refer their friends.

f.) Most owners/instructors/coaches don’t have a system for keeping them on track and forcing themselves to take the necessary steps to guarantee their success.

Here are some helpful thoughts / systems for you:

1.) Every single morning when you walk into your facility…focus on and implement AT LEAST 1 idea so that you, your staff or your product (the instruction) OVERDELIVERS. Make sure that you document it so that you can make it part of your standard operating procedures.

2.) Every single day, set it as your minimum goal to generate at least one referral….that means go ahead and ASK. My grandmother always told me, “Jason, if you don’t ask…the answer is always NO.” Smart Lady!

*** Special System / Script – click here to download (for free) the script that my staff used to generate referrals from almost every single person who joined our program…on the day that they joined.

3.) In the “members only” area of your website, you really need an automated system to generate and collect referrals from your current members. (FYI – the folks who are currently working with me and my team on their sites, are getting this system for free)

4.) It’s imperative that once you generate the referrals that you have a simple to use, automated system to follow up with them (if they don’t join when you call them the first time). This can be easily done using any of the autoresponder / CRM software out there – if you need any help on that, drop me a note.

5.) You absolutely, positively MUST collect and USE testimonials or “social proof” in all of your marketing…it’s really just that important. Keep in mind that “what you say about your program is good…what THEY say about your program is GOLD.

*** Special System / Script – click here to download (for free) one of the emails that my we’ve used successfully for years to generate testimonials and case studies from our current members. This is one of 6 that we use on a regular basis, FYI.

6.) One of my long time friends and dare I say, students (he was a long time Powerful Words client and graduated every single one of my Marketing Courses) wrote a fantastic blog post this morning about a system I taught him years ago…the system was designed to FORCE ME TO TAKE CONSISTENT ACTION, EVEN IF I DIDN’T WANT TO. Click Here to check out the blog post –> http://goo.gl/FA7zh

Alright – I’m headed home for some chicken soup to hopefully kill whatever I’ve got. Hope you’re gearing up for a wonderful holiday…please let me know how I can be helpful to your success. Everybody here at Powerful Words is eager to see you make 2012 your best year yet.

Talk soon,
Jason

Hello and Happy Friday!

As many people in the industry have heard, I recently went through double hernia surgery. All I can say about that…is…OUCH! I’m starting to heal…slowly but surely, though it’s been a rough go of it. Thanks to everybody who’s reached out to me wondering where I’ve been for the past couple of weeks. Not to worry, it takes more than a few holes in my abdomen to keep me down

The marketing guy in me wanted to share surgical pics with ya…but we couldn’t convince the surgeon to put down the scalpel and pic up a camera…in retrospect, probably a very good thing, eh?

On a more constructive level though, I was thoroughly impressed with the lengths the hospital staff went to in order to make me feel comfortable and happy with my decision to “give them my business.” This really got me thinking about how rare it is for an after school activity center (Martial Arts Academy, Cheer Gym, Gymnastics School, Swim School, Dance Studio, etc.) to really give a Powerful Benefits Based Tour to prospective students and their families.

Our very own Dr. Robyn Silverman, founder and creator of the Powerful Words Character Development System has put together a special report to HELP YOU design your Powerful Benefits School Tour. Here’s the link:

***********************************

http://goo.gl/GM9xF

***********************************

I’m considering putting together a “Back to School Marketing Mastermind” to help owners really KNOCK IT OUT OF THE PARK when the summer is over. Would this be of interest to you? It’s going to be a very small group to keep the results ultra-high. Please leave a comment below if you’d find it beneficial for me to personally help you design an aggressive, results based Marketing Strategy for this coming school year.

*** Oh, by the way, if, for some reason, you’re not yet a Powerful Words family member, give me a call at 877-769-3799 – I’ve got something special for everybody who hops onboard this summer that I know you’re going to love!

Hope you’re having a “Wicked Cool” Wednesday. After living in Massachusetts for 20 years or so, “wicked” has become a part of my vocabulary…kind of a fun word, right?

In any case – as I’m sure you know at this point, I’ve been giving away a TON of FREE TOOLS to help you ensure the success of your school right now.

Today, I’m going to share a very powerful tool that was created by our very own Dr. Robyn Silverman (the founder / creator of the Powerful Words Character Development System).

As you’ll see, this letter is designed to show the value and benefit of sticking with consistent classes over the summer.

As we all know, when we hear, “we’re just going to take a quick break”, it’s usually the beginning of the end of that student’s training as they break their routine.

Another Powerful aspect of this letter is that it’s written by a Nationally recognized Child Development Expert (as seen on the Today Show, the CBS Early Show, Good Morning America, Nightline, etc.) – YOUR Academy’s Child Development Expert.

Yet another way for you to quickly and easily leverage Dr Robyn’s credentials (PhD in Child Development) as well as her ever growing celebrity!

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THIS LETTER

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

IMPORTANT NOTE: All Powerful Words Family Members will be able to download this letter as a Word document (for quick and easy editing and implementation) from the Powerful Words members area.

Alright – as always, I hope you are knocking it out of the park this year. Take a moment and let me know how you intend to implement this system – feel free to add a comment below!

best,

Hello and Happy Monday.

Well, the world is buzzing today about Osama Bin Laden’s death. I’m sure as an educator (and also potentially as a parent yourself), you may be bombarded with questions from your staff as well as your clients about HOW EXACTLY DO I EXPLAIN Osama Bin Laden’s death to my children/students?

Our very own Child Development Expert, Dr. Robyn Silverman just put out a special tip report on this very subject so that you’re armed with the info you need, right now. Here’s a link to her tips:

http://goo.gl/Vww36

As always, you want to ensure that you are ALWAYS PREPARED with the best advice from the most reliable source possible. When it comes to Child Development and Personal Development, Dr. Robyn is honored to be that source for you.

I’d strongly urge you to send the above link to all of your students’ parents immediately so that, they too, have the help they need…and deserve. You’ll be providing them with a wonderful resource (it goes without saying that this info is FREE for them, and they will not be sold to or marketed to!)

Sincerely,

Jason

It’s been a good week! Actually, the other night, my daughter Tallie (2 years old going on 34) says to me “daddy…yicks!” which, in case you don’t speak toddler, means, “Daddy, let’s go outside and practice some Eskrima so I can develop my character as well as my athletic abilities” (at least, that’s what I believe it means!) You can see this in effect to the right…and yes, that’s Noah (age 10 months) hanging out in the backpack…his turn is coming soon!

Last week I shared one way to make sure that you are communicating successfully with the parents of your students and providing them with high quality information that they actually WANT TO READ. Remember, lack of communication is a LEADING CAUSE OF PROGRAM CANCELLATION. Don’t let this happen!

This week, I’d like to share with you a few examples that you can AND SHOULD be modeling as easy marketing and retention strategies. We all need marketing and retention strategies in our businesses, don’t we?

Now, if you have all the students you want, waiting lists a mile long for each of your classes, and a bank account with endless funds, you probably won’t need to implement this. If, however, you are a real business owner, I’m confident that you’ll find these examples helpful and that implementation will do your school (and your bank account) some good.

Powerful Success Example #1:

Click This Link –> http://goo.gl/v2yH3

What you’ll see here is a blog post / landing page from Serge and Carmen Sognonvi of Urban Martial Arts (http://www.UrbanDojo.com). They’ve gone ahead and “borrowed” from both the Parents Perch and Dear Dr. Robyn to create some useful information for parents. In addition, they’ve created a special report: “The Power of Respect: A Guide for Parents and Educators” which provides some valuable information (for FREE) to prospective parents AS WELL AS educators who can then bring them into their schools’ classrooms to provide a school talk. This is a fabulous way to get in front of your central demographics model in one place! Great Job Folks!

Powerful Success Example #2:

Click This Link –> http://goo.gl/WWsev

What you’ll see here is a blog post / landing page from Manny Cabrera III of Sidekicks Family Martial Arts Center (http://www.SideKicks-Online.com). Manny’s gone ahead and quite literally CHOPPED a piece of the Parents Perch as a JPG file and added it to the top of this blog post. It’s both eye-catching as well as content rich, so it kills 2 birds with 1 stone. (NOTE: No birds were actually harmed in the creation of this blog post) In addition, Manny has taken the copy from the Parents Perch letter and used it as the content for the post. What adds even more interest and value is that he’s also used the Powerful Words Introductory Video that we provide every month as a superb way to engage people on his site. As the content for this blog post was almost all re-purposed, it probably took less than 10 minutes to do…I’d say that’s 10 minutes invested wisely, how about you? Great Job Manny, keep it up!

Alright -

Can you go ahead and model what these successful school owners have done? YES

Should you go ahead and model what these successful school owners have done? YES

Would not taking action on this be ridiculous? ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY

The May 2011 Powerful Words Toolkit is already in your members area, so you can do this RIGHT NOW!

If you’d like any help with this, simply comment below and we’ll get you the help you need, ok?

Have a Great Weekend!
